Lakair Lodge is under renovation!
LAKAIR LODGE IS UNDER RENOVATION!
Lakair has been catering to families, fishermen and outdoor enthusiasts since 1919. We offer comfortable, clean, fully renovated waterfront cottages ranging in size from 1 to 3 bedrooms. We are sure that you will enjoy your stay at Lakair Lodge, where we pride ourselves in offering friendly, helpful service on the beautiful West Arm of Lake Nipissing .
We enjoyed a very good and productive 2017 season! The completion of the renovations on 3 more of our waterfront cabins brought our total number of completed renovated cottages to 6, and we were delighted to be able to host more people from across the world, new guests and old friends of Lakair Lodge.
Through a very wet season in 2017 our tremendous construction crew continued to work away on renovating our 3 Bedroom Cottage bringing our total of completed waterfront cottages to 7. The fall brought on the beginning of the huge task of renovating our very old Main Lodge building. The Main Lodge renovation continues to date, with plans for the New Restaurant to be opening for our 2018 Season at the end of May! Hats off to our great crew!!
With our focus directed to the completion of the restaurant, the further renovations to our “Old Legacy Cabins” has had to be delayed. We are hopeful that by next season, we will have a full contingent of renovated, comfortable cabins for rent.
Our new Ice Cream Shack was a great success and a destination at the waterfront either by foot or by paddle. To those of you who came by looking for ice-cream, Thank you! We were delighted to be able to scoop out that wonderful Farquhars Ice Cream and have a chance to make new friends and reconnect with old friends! We will be adding Milkshakes and Steamer Hotdogs to our menu for the 2018 season and look forward to seeing you there!
We will be offering Premium Gasoline, Oil and basic Fishing Bait and Tackle for sale at our Marina Boat House again this year as well as Ice.
Under the able direction of our Site Director, Dennis Anderson, we are excited about a new year as we continue to renovate.
Celebrating 90 years on the West Arm
It all started way back in 1919 when Fred and Lillian Cameron first created Samoset Lodge out of the forest next to a rock point and a sandy beach.
Years later (1948), with much water under the bridge, Lillian (now a Batsford) and her son Wally Cameron joined forces to build a second lodge, named Lakair, located beside the original lodge and fronting on the new “Kings” Hwy.#64.
In 1992, son Kevin and wife, Leslie took over Lakair Lodge from Wally and Hazel Cameron to carry on the tradition.
Much has changed over those 90 years and much has remained the same. The lake is still very beautiful, and the fishing, although not the virgin fishing of the early ’20s remains very good.
At Lakair we have strived to maintain much of the “50s” charm. Many of our guests have been coming here for generations and the old timers have great stories to tell of fishing adventures from years gone by. Some of our guests are direct descendants of the original visitors who first met my Grandmother, Lillian Cameron (originally Lillian Lavanna Rice) way back in the 1920s
